Kim holds the record at the Cedar Junior High School where he sailed 6Y He holds the Region Eight 2A record, the SUSC Stadium Record, the Dixie Invitational In-vitational Record, the. Dixie College Stadium Record, the University of Utah Desert News Invitational Record, the Weber Invitational record and he is the record holder for the Region XI in 3A competition. He has garnered the state championship for the past two years-once as a 2A champion and this year as the 3A champion, as well as holding the all time state record. Kim is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Nielson of Cedar City. He graduated from Cedar High School in exercises this past week. For his collegiate career Kim has had many offers, but has signed a letter of intent to attend Brigham Young University where he "was offered an athletic .scholarship which includes, tuition, board and room and books. The Golden West Invitational that Kim will attend at Sacramento is open exclusively ex-clusively to the top graduating senior high school track and field athletes from throughout the United States. Entry is. by invitation only and is limited to eight outstanding performers in each of fifteen established men's high school track and field events. Invitational officials utilize an independent in-dependent nationwide "network" of advisory ad-visory coaches and sports writers to assist in- identifying for invitation the most outstanding performers and consider, as a prime selection factor, "proven comepetitive performances." , At the competition there are no trials, owing to the selectiveness of the field; and olympic-style gold, silver and bronze medals are awarded to the first four place winners in each event. Although Kim will probably not be able to accept the invitation to the International In-ternational Prep meet, the qualifications and selection are just as strict. It is interesting in-teresting to note that the record in the high jump, set in 1975, is TVa", just Vs inch above Kim's Utah record setting leap. KIM NIELSON Kim Nielson, Cedar High School's elite high jumper has been extended an in-, in-, vitation to attend and participate in two ' national prep track meets this month. Nielson, who established a new Utah High School record with a leap of 7 ft. Vs inches at the Snow Invitational, has been invited to participate in the Fifth Annual International Prep Track and Field Invitational In-vitational to be held June 12 at Duche Stadium at Northwestern University at Evanston, Illinois and also the Golden West Invitational Track and Field Meet at I Hughes Stadium at Sacramento, Calif, on Saturday, June 19. Invitation to the Golden West meet is extended to the top eight graduation seniors throughout the nation in each of the events. It is anticipated that Nielson will enter this event. Kim's leap of over seven feet this year was, as far as is known at this time, the third best by a prep student during the past year. Other marks were TV4" and 7'V It is also the first time that a prep athlete from Cedar High School has ever been extended an invitation to participate in these prestigious post season meets.
