Show Jones Piano win Bantam Basketball Crown Wlitt : .HI l.,-, PAROWAN Basketball players don't have to be tall to provide exciting basketball action. The four Parowan Bantam teams kept the fans on the edge of their seats during the final tournament held Saturday in the PHS gym. After some close hard fought games the Jones Piano team coached by Mike Evans walked off with the championship and a fine Parowan Merc team coached by Richard Burton took second place. Third place went to Trading Center coached by Mike Thornton and Pat Benson. Fourth went to J & J who finished the final minutes of the last game with only four players, as Chris Robb, one of their "big guns" fouled out. J & J team is coached by Dan Stones and Shane Bess. In the first game Saturday morning Jones defeated J & J 4 41 to 27. Jones team had three men in double figures, Bill Riggs had 14, Dan Robinson 11 and Mike Robinson 10. The second game was won by the Merc by a 44 to 25 score. They defeated Trading Center. Scoring for the Merc was as follows: Doug Rogberson 20, Dan Evans 14 and Alan Burton 10. T.C. Scoring was led by Tony Orton with 8 and Brady Smith with 7, John Snow had 4 and Travis Grififths, Tony Rassmussen, and Renado Matheson each had two. In the consolation . championship game Trading Center picked up a narrow 40 to 38 win over J & J. Travis Griffiths was high point man for TC. with 14, John Snow and Tony Orton each had eight. Renado Matheson had six, Brady Smith also scored. J & J scoring leaders were Chris Robb 12, Shaun Spendlove and Shawn Robb each had 10 and Mike Rogerson six. The championship game was won by Jones Piano 37 to 34 and was a close game all the way with Jones maintaining main-taining a slight lead through most of the game. Bill Riggs was the big gun for Jones with 15 points, Mike Robinson ahd 11, Neil Orton 5, Dan Robinson four and Sean Lamoreau two. Merc scoring was led by Doug Rogerson with 14, Dan Evans with eight and Layne Dalton and Alan Burton six each.
