Show Eugene Woolf Contributes extensively to SUSC school of Arts and Letters A new dean of the School of Arts and Letters at Southern Utah State College will be selected soon. The change in the dean-ship dean-ship is being made at least partially in line with a college policy of occasionally oc-casionally rotating administrative ad-ministrative assignments, according to Dr. Conrad V. Hatch, SUSC vice president for academic affairs. The current dean, Dr. Eugene T. Woolf, who has served as the dean for the past 12 years, will remain on the college teaching faculty and will probably be assigned other administrative ad-ministrative duties. "Dean Woolf has established for himself and for Southern Utah State College, a reputation statewide of strength in the humanities," Hatch said. EUGENE T. WOOLF created and a system of interdisciplinary relationships established. Woolf holds B.A.M.A., and PH.D. degrees in English literature from the University of Utah. He has served as a consultant to numerous concerns in government, industry and education. j He was elected to two I terms on the Iron County I School Board, and he has served two terms on the state textbook committee for language arts. Woolf is now serving his secsond term as j a member of the Utah En- f dowment for the Humanities. He has written v many articles on social, political, and educational philosophy, and on general ! philosophy. 1 s Dean Woolf is a veteran of V World War II and the Korean War. He has commanded a Utah National Guard battalion bat-talion with the rank of Lieutenant colonel and served as deputy chief of staff at state headquarters with the rank of colonel until his retirement in 1977 from the army reserves. Woolf is married to Leslie ' Rollo of Cedar City. They f are the parents of four sons. ', Woolf will complete his service as dean effective June 30. The new dean, who is yet to be selected, will assume his duties July 1. Applications for the position are now being accepted by the college. Woolf has served for 12 years as secretary of the Board of Directors of the Utah Shakespearean Festival. He is also involved in the creation of an honors program at SUSC, in the creation of a distinguished lecture series at the college, and in the administration of a federal grant which is being used to study the humanities program at SUSC. It is anticipated that he will continue to serve in these areas. Under Woolf all departments depart-ments administered under the School of Arts and Letters have become fully accredited. The School of Arts and Letters includes the departments of art, behavioral and social sciences, communication-theater communication-theater arts, English, family life, languages, and music. It was under Woolf that independent departments within the school were |
