Show Commissioners name Shumate, Shuey To Public Defender post The Iron County Commissioners Com-missioners voted to accept the joint bid- of Attorney's Jim Shumate and Ray Shuey as new Iron County Public Defenders at their regular meeting on Wednesday, Wed-nesday, Feb. 11. Attorney's Shumate and Shuey will resume public defender responsibilities beginning February 15 of this year. Attorney At-torney Willard Bishop will be relieved of this position and Shumate will pick up the Alexander homicide case. Shumate and Shuey are from the Southern Utah County Defenders office, in St. George. The appointment ap-pointment of two lawyers as public defenders will omit conflect of interest case problems. Mayor Kendall Gurr, representing Parowan City and the Parowan Chamber of Commerce appeared before the board requesting that some action be taken concerning the old courthouse in Parowan. The Commissioners voted to put the property up for sale and advertisement ad-vertisement is presently being arranged. The Commissioners voted to donate $100 to the Cedar City Art Exhibit, again this year. Among issues discussed was the problem of the Antelope County road, where accidents, some fatal, have occured frequently. No action was taken. |
