Show Grand Jury Hearing Called District Court Judge J. Harlan Burns will again hold a hearing in the Iron County Courthouse, Parowan, Utah, on Tuesday, the 27th day of March, 1979, commencing at the hour of 10:00 a.m., for the purpose of allowing all persons claiming information in-formation justifying the calling of a Grand Jury in Iron County to be heard in secret and in strict confidence con-fidence and to be examined under oath by the Court. Ordinarily, under the laws of the State of Utah, a Grand Jury is called only in the event a public official or employee is doing something in an official capacity that is improper or illegal (misfeasance in office) or is failing to do that which the duties and responsibilities of his office rquire (malfeasance in office), or in the event there is a public offense that has not been or is not at the present time being prosecuted. Upon proper cause shown the Grand Jury can investigate matters of concern, call witnesses who testify in confidence and, if proper, return indictments for criminal offenses and at the close of their Grand Jury proceedings make a written report to the Court which may be published at large. |
