Show CANDIDATES FOR BOARD. At a meeting of the Utah PCA held in Cedar City candidates can-didates for the Board of Directors from Region 5 were introduced. They are, left to right: Gail D. Vaughn Mills, Pesident of the organization whose membership is made up of those in agriculture who borrow from the institution, pointed out that the 1978 financial report indicated a profit of $16,572 as compred to a loss the previous year of $781,000. " We have acquired property which we are trying to sell. We are in - the business of loaning money, not acquiring it," he told the area members. He pointed out that as the acquired property is sold it will come back to PCA "to be used by us." A highlight of the year was the opening of a new office of PCA in Spanish Fork in January of this year. Mills reported that they expect to loan 2.5 million dollars from this office during 1979. Ferris Fitzgerald, chairman of the Board fromDraper, told the group that survival of the family farm is so important but emphasized that costs for the family farm continue to go up. "Everything we buy we buy at retail and everything we sell we sell at wholesale." he emphasized. em-phasized. He did note, however, that the livestock, dairy and turkey industries have shown substantial gains over the past year. "If anyone is suffering it is the crop farmer. He is struggling to maintain the acreage to be effective as state tends to grow industrially," he said. Candidates for two positions on the Utah Farm PCA board were voted on at the meeting representing the geographical areas of south Utah and parts of Nevada and Arizona. Candidates from District Four, the south central portion of the state, were on hand at the meeting including in-cluding Donnell Spencer of Aurora, andRonald J. Beck of Centerfield. In Region Five three candidates were vieing for a position on the board including in-cluding Wayne A. Smith, owner and operator of Cedar Packing Company of Cedar City; Glen L. Halterman, Parowan, who owns and operates a farm and sheep business and Gail D. Van Tassell, who operates a farm in Milford with a major crop of cubed alfalfa hay. Although candidates represent a geographical area of the state all members mem-bers of PCSA are given an opportunity to vote. Final results of elections was expected to be announced this week following a meeting held in Salt Lake City. A series of meetings have been conducted throughout - the state, Mills pointed out, at which the candidates were introduced and balloting conducted. |
