Show EFFECT LOCAL AREA New Regulations for Government Land Control New regulations issued by the Secretary of the Interior concerning recreation on lands administered by the Bureau of Land Management rivers and natural areas. In cooperation with agencie of state and local government BLM will endeavor, under the new regulations, to provide access for public use and enjoyment en-joyment of lands with outdoor out-door recreation value. ' Opportunity to operate motorized mo-torized vehicles on public lands is recognized as a recreation rec-reation attraction. The new regulations allow for selection of' sites which . will provide recreation ' opportunities " f o r off-road vehicle use consistent consist-ent with minimized impairment impair-ment of natural values. One possible area for this type activity ac-tivity is at the Juab County sand dunes near Jericho. Regulations also provide for certain rules for public use and occupancy on developed recreation sites for protection, comfort and well-being of j people using those sites. i . may havee considerable local implications, according to District Dis-trict Manager Delmar D. Vail, Cedar City District BLM. Affected are the 1,600,000 acres of land administered by the Cedar City District BLM office'. The new regulations are effective immediately. These regulations recognize there may be commercial facilities fa-cilities on public lands including includ-ing resorts, motels, trailer camps, stores, guide services, markias, - ami ski Jacilities. Sports events, races and rallies ral-lies are also recognized as legitimate uses of the public lands. The regulations provide pro-vide for issuance of special permits for these and other activities. Among recreational pursuits recognized are collections of hobby specimens for personal use. Collection of renewable and non-renewable materials for sale or barter must be done within existing laws. Certain activities which damage dam-age or destroy recreation environments en-vironments are prohibited under un-der these regulations. Use of motorized equipment is not permitted for digging, scraping scrap-ing or trenching when collecting collect-ing specimens on the public lands.
