Show Former resident holds unique job at Hill A F B A former Cedar City woman, Mrs. Ralph (Dorine) Johnson, has recently been featured in the "Hill Top Times" for her unique skills and assignment assign-ment at Hill Air Force Base. Mrs. Johnson, according to the feature article, works in the Metallurgical and Nondestructive Non-destructive Test Section, Quality Qual-ity Conrol Division Maintenance, Mainten-ance, and is the only certified woman radiographer in Air Force Logistis Command. "She not only operates the complicated X-ray equipment, but she is also trained in the use of Iridium 192 radioiso-topy radioiso-topy for radiographic inspection, inspec-tion, making her one of the two people at Hill AFB who is licensed by the Atomic Energy En-ergy Commission to use the radioactive source," th.e article arti-cle points out. In addition to her work at Hill, "she is called upon to interpret radiographs and verify readings from other Air Force bases. The decisions and recommendations she gives have important impact on the reliability of a variety of weapons systems and the safety of the men operating them." Mrs. Johnson talked of some of the more exciting projects she has worked on: "There was the examination examina-tion of fuse assemblies of the M219 grenade to find out if the firing mechanism was in 'arm' or 'safe' position; then the inspection of welds in the main body sections of missiles; mis-siles; and also the identification identifi-cation of the cause of failure of hydraulic brake valves," the article noted. The Johnsons live at 5188 S. 2375 West in Roy. They have two sons, Brad, who lives in Brigham City and Ronald, who just returned from his tour in Army service. |
