Show er on r ep it n on THOSE U PINS The rhe wearing of the U pins has caused no no end of trouble an and dispute during the past few v weeks In the last issue of the Chronicle Chronicle Chronicle Chron Chron- icle there appeared in these columns an article that any student of the University ought to to-be to be ashamed of Any loyal student should be better informed than the author was The Utah Varsity l club not the U club should have received the brunt of the attack since it has been instrumental 1 in trying to raise the standard of the school and the wearers of the U The Varsity club as most students by this time know is composed d of all men men who have won von their athletic U This does not mean that they are opposed to other men or students wearing their emblem as provided in the laws of the as associated associated associated as- as students but they do maintain that more distinction should be made They are not ashamed of what they have done They are proud of it and want vant their efforts to stand for their true value Do they do this at the present time We think not To a casual observer what decided distinction is there to the Chronicle and Dramatic club pins Both are three-eighths three of an inch high and are only distinguished by a very small engraving that cannot be seen five feet away and then only in the direct light Athletics do not tend nor make an athlete narrow minded as was the inferred statement They broaden out and develop the minds of the participant participant participant par par- and the student If there were more taking part in athletics athletics athletics ath ath- in the University of Utah such absurd statements as appeared in the last issue regarding the U pins vv would uld not have been made The work vork done for the of the school whether it be in dramatics col college ege journalism or athletics should and eventually will be properly recognized by the students and more will vill then take part They cannot be expected nor will they take part until there is more distinction Reserve the block U HU for the athlete athlete athlete ath ath- lete and nd allow v him to wear it in any form Grant a separate anc and distinct U to the debater the members of the Chronicle staff al and l those securing a place in the caste of the dramatic club Then Thel will the student strive for that which he cares to and for which he lie receives a due recognition |
