HALVERSEN Services to honor Roy Halversen Roy L. Halversen, 05, died March 16 in the Valley View Medical Center. Funeral services ser-vices for the noted educator and prominent musician will be held today, Thursday, at 2 p.m. in the Cedar Second-Eighth Second-Eighth War Chapel. Friends may call at the Spilsbury-Graff Mortuary today to-day from 12:30 to time of ser- vices. Burial will be in the Cedar City cemetery. Halversen was born October 17, 1901 in Paradise, Utah a son of L. II. and Minnie Halversen. Hal-versen. He married Maude Maefarlane June 5, 1929 in Salt Lake City and the marriage mar-riage was later solomnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Halversen taught at the Southern Utah State College for 43 years and won high acclaim ac-claim for his orchestral and string work. He served as head of the department of music for a number of years. In addition he was active in community and church affairs. af-fairs. Halversen was a past president presi-dent of the Rotary Club and an honorary member of the Cedar Ce-dar City Chamber of Commerce. Com-merce. He was the recipient of the Junior Chamber Distinguished Distin-guished Service Award in 1940 ami was a member of the Cedar Ce-dar West Stake High Priests Quorum. He served as secretary of the Music Arts Commitiee for 10 years and was a member of the Central Committee of the Cedar City Coordinating Council. He was also a member mem-ber of the Escalante Knife and Fork Club. He was educated at the Utah State University, Columbia Col-umbia University, Julliard Conservatory of Music and the University of Berlin. See Editorial comment. Page Two. He is survived by his widow, wi-dow, Cedar City; daughters, Mrs. Donald (Renee) Milne El Monte, Calif.; Mrs. Dennis (Marilyn) Huntsman, Liver-poole, Liver-poole, N. Y.; and a son, Dr. R. Chad Halversen, Salt Lake City. Also surviving is his mother, moth-er, Minnie Halversen, Logan; a brother, Leon L. Halversen, Lafayette, Calif, and four grandchildren. |
