Show Dixie Leavitt Opens Filing For Local Political Posts ' four-year term this year. Senator Leavitt indicated that he is seeking re-election because of his desire to ful- State Senator Dixie Leavitt, Republican of Cedar City has filed as a candidate for re-elction re-elction to the Senate from multiple-county District 27, which includes Iron, Washington Washing-ton and Kane counties. He was the first to file for positions to be filled from Iron county and the surrounding area. Sen. Leavitt is competing his sixth year in the Senate this year and served one prior erm in the Utah House of Representatives. Re-presentatives. He was elected to the Senate in 1966 for a two-year term because of reapportionment, re-apportionment, allowing only one Senator from the three counties, whereas Iron Coun-;y Coun-;y had been a Senatorial district dis-trict and Washington and ICane counties comprising another an-other district, providing two "enators from the three counties. coun-ties. The change necessitated establishing new staggered terms. The senator from the district will be named for a Pi,.- 1 f ' ' if V t fill certain legislative programs pro-grams on which he has conducted con-ducted studies as chairman of the Utah Legislative Council's State Planning and Goals Committee. He has been a member of the Council for thive years. His commilteo. has proposed re-commendations re-commendations concering the control and use of comuters by state government and coordination coordin-ation of administration for post hi.t;h school educational institutions. Three other positions will bo filled in Iron County in the November election with May 10th as tlit deadline for filing as candidate for each of them.; A Representative to thoi State Legislature from Iron, County will be elected tMs year. The position is currently held by Harold Mitchell, Republican, Re-publican, of Parowan. Two Iron County Commissioners Commis-sioners must also be elected, one for a two-year term and one for a four-year term. The positions are currently held by Norman Heaton and Ivan Matheson, respectively, both Republicans. Three important School Board positions will also be filled this year, with later filing fil-ing dates for these positions. ; A member of the State Board of Education from this district dis-trict will be elected. The dis trict includes five counties) Juab, Millard, Beaver, Iron and Washington counties. The deadline for filing for this po ;ition is the last Wednesday in June, or June 26. ! Two members of the Iron SENATOR DIXIE LEAVITT county scnool District uoarq of education will be elected, with the filing date set at 30 days prior to the election. The iCTibers will be elected from district Four and Five in Cedar Ce-dar City, The positions are currently cur-rently held by Ken Knight, and E. T. Woolf, respectively. |
