Show 0. Ronnie Adams Decorated With Silver Star U. S. Air Force Captain Oscar Os-car R. (Ronnie) Adams, son of Mr. and Mrs. William B. Adams, Jr. of Cedar City, has been decorated with the Silver Sil-ver Star and five awards of the Air Medal at Norton AFB, Calif., for air action in Southeast South-east Asia. Captain Adams received the Silver Star for gallantry while flying as a forward air controller con-troller in a support mission at the Tong Le Chanh special forces camp, Vietnam, in August, Au-gust, 1967. The captain directed fighter aircraft, army gunship helicopters heli-copters and AC-47 Dragon-ships Dragon-ships on strikes against enemy ene-my antiaircraft gun emplacements, emplace-ments, mortar positions, and troop massing areas. He also directed attacks along the per-imeter per-imeter of the camp to stop enemy infiltration. Captain Adams flew for three hours in intense ground fire, crossfire and richocheting rounds from both friendly and hostile forces to help save the garrison from being overrun. He received the Air Medals for meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flights from June to October of 1967, contributing to the successful accomplishment of important missions in Southeast South-east Asia. He now has a total of six Air Medals. The captain, a 1958 graduate of Cedar City High School, received his A.S. degree from Brigham Young University, and was commissioned in 1963 upon completion of the Reserve Re-serve Officers Training Corps program. Now a C-141 Starlifter pilot with the 15th Military Airlift Squadron at Norton, the captain cap-tain earned his awards whUe a member of the 19th Tactical Air Support Squadron at Bien Hoa AB, Vietnam. |
