Show Redmen End Football Season With 33 -19 Victory Over Hurricane Tigers on Home Field Football season for the Cedar High School came to a clone last Friday afternoon on a winning note as they downed the Tigers of Hurricane 33 to 19 in a game played at Cedar City. The game, strictly an offensive battle, was much closer than the score would indicate with the Redmen breaking away from a slim one-point margin, 20 to 19 In the final quarter, for the victory. vic-tory. The two squads exchanged touchdowns through the first three periods of play. The Red- men hit paydlrt first. The TD was set up with a pass from Wes Roberts to Nell Roberts and( It was taken over for the score by Lee Hunter, halfback. The point after was missed. Hurricane bounced right back and on a series of plays ground; out yardage on the ground and through the air to score on aj plunge from four yards out to tie it at 6 all when the point after af-ter was missed. The Redmen bounced right back and what looked like a weep to the right on a quarterback quarter-back keep. The play covered a dis-i tance of 43 yards. Neil Roberts . made tie kick for the extra point good, giving the Redmen a 13 to 6 lead. I That lead was cut short on the! kickoff following the TD as shifty shif-ty CraifT Barrick hauled in the pigskin on his own 15, cut for the sideline, picked up two fine blocks and broke away from one tackier, putting him in the clear and he sailed the distance, scoring scor-ing on an 83 yard run. The Tig-gers Tig-gers attempted to pass for the extra point and it failed leaving the score at 13 to 12. Tne Redmen again bounced back and late in the period another an-other pass from Wes Roberts to Mike Can clicked for 40 yards and the Redmen left the field at halftlme with a 20 to 12 lead. Opening the second half Hurricane Hurri-cane took the opening kickoff back to their 25 yard line and on five successive pass plays they had moved to the Redmen 15. Although Al-though rushed, the Tigers were getting the ball away for the short man and moved consistently consistent-ly down the field. From the 15 the Tigers went around Cedar's left end and the ball carrier was pushed out of bounds on the one foot line. The Tigers hit the middle mid-dle of the line on the next play for the score. Again the Tigers took to the air for the important point after and it was batted out of the hands of the Intended receiver re-ceiver in the end zone, but was caught by another Tiger, moving the score to 20 to 19. Both offenses bogged down midway In the third period with the exception of one drive generated gen-erated by each team that fell I short. Hurricane drove to the Redmen 30 only to lose the ball on downs and the Redmen lost possession In Tiger territory on a fumble. - In the fourth period the Red-men Red-men again got into action. Brent Bulloch ripped off a 20 gain to get things going and a 15 yard penalty for piling on put the Cedar Ce-dar crew in scoring position. Neil took the ball for a first down, Bulloch picked up another five and then Neil ran for another first down on the Tiger four. Neil hit into the middle on the next play then missed the conversion attempt to put Cedar out in front 26 to 19. After the kickoff the Redmen defense stiffened and held giving giv-ing possession back to the Cedar Ce-dar crew. N. Roberts moved it out to the Redmen 49 for a first down, Bulloch scampered to the Tiger 47 then N. Roberts swept his own right end and raced 47 yards for the final score of the game, then kicked the extra point for the final 33 to 19 score. |
