Show Utah Parks Wins 1964 Pony League Baseball Crown i The Utah Parks team of the. Cedar City Pony League emerged ' this week as the 1904 champions posting a final 3 to 0 victory over California Pacific Utilities for the title. It was the second straight victory vic-tory for the Parks over Cal.-Pac. in the best two out of three contest con-test to determine the league title holders. Cal.-Pac. wound up winning win-ning the first half of the league and Utah Parks came back to win the second and picked up the title in the playoff. Parks posted a 4 to 1 victory last week in the first game of the series then wrapped up the title Monday Mon-day evening. Wayne Esplin, who came on strong during the final half of the season was credited with the shutout victory allowing only one hit in the seven Inning stint. He gave up a texas-league single in the third inning to Mike Lea-vitt, Lea-vitt, the only hit for Cal.Pac. in the contest. Esplin was also the big gun offensively of-fensively as he belted a two run homer in the fourth frame to break a scoreless deadlock. Mike Thompson was on ahead of Esplin Es-plin when he hit the homer, his first in his Pony ' aague career. In the sixth inning Esplin scored the third and final run of the game. He reached first on an error, stole second base, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on another error. Dale Hatch of Cal.-Pac. was charged with the loss although he gave up only four hits in the championship game. In addition to Esplin's homer Gaylen Hey-borne Hey-borne singled and Steve Rollo picked up a pair of singles. Hatch had 13 strikeouts, Esplin collected collect-ed a total of 11.
