Show Freedom's Key May we draw your attention to the quotation that banners our paper this week. We at the Iron County Record Rec-ord take pride in that statement because it has a specific reference to us. "Here today, gone tomorrow . . . But not the printed print-ed word. Forty centuries of man's accumulated wisdom. Always available for guidance, through the printed word . . . the lasting guarantee of America's learning and liberty!" lib-erty!" As a manufacturer of the printed word the Iron County Coun-ty Record, during this, National Newspaper Week, points with pride to the part we feel we play In the community. "Here today gone tomorrow," might refer to the ever changing times, our people, our buildings, our very existence. exist-ence. But from the printed words a history can be unfolded unfold-ed and the history of Cedar City can best be found in the backlog of the past issues of the Record. Each week is recorded the history, the a'ccomplish-ments, a'ccomplish-ments, the desires and undertaking of our people, of our organizations. Within! the columns of the Record are the everyday events of birth, marriage, death. The paper is a current word and pictorial picture, of the Cedar City as we know it from week to week, but in years to come each edition becomes a history of a people and of a community that can be found in no other place. And don't think that the advertisements aren't a part of the picture. Therein lies another history, keeping pace with competitive products, new businesses and in some cases the dissolving of businesses. The Record Is taken to your door each week to report to you the happenings of our area to be absorbed at your convenience. - "And as we record these happenings ot the area we become be-come a part of the national newspaper system that has done so much to maintain the free rights of our people through the decades. "Your newspaper . . . Freedom's key to better living" has been selected as the theme for this year's observance of National Newspaper Week. We are proud to be a part of the drive, and everlasting challenge chal-lenge to maintain and uphold the rights of the Individual. We also say thanks to those organizations who have so honored us during this week of observance. It is only through such recognition that we can be assured that we are doing the job expected of us and that should be expected ex-pected of us. The Editor |
