Show Parowan City Tax Levy Set fit 28.75 Mills At a meeting of the' Parowan City Council the first of the week, the tax levy for the year 1959 was set, after a lengthy discussion, discus-sion, and much previous study by the auditing committee of the council. The 1959 levy will remain re-main at 28.75 mills, the same as was set last year, although some changes were made in some of the fund levies. The 1959 levy of 28.75 mills will be levied against an assessed assess-ed valuation of approximately $G15,490, slightly less than Parowan Par-owan City's 1958 valuation, we understand. The breakdown of the tax levy among the various city funds, Is as follows: General fund, 5.00 mills, same as last year; Irrigation fund, 2.50 mills, down from 3.00 mills last year; streets and sidewalks, 5.00 mills, same as last year; parks and public property, 1.50 mills, same as 1958; Public safety, 5.00 mills, same as 1958; City halls and memorials, 2.50 mills, down from 3.00 mills last year; city audit expense, .50 of a mill, and recreation, .75 of a mill, same as last year; Interest and sinking fund, 4.00 mills, up one mill from the 3.00 mills levied last year, and public libraries, 2.00 mills, same as last vear. With two of the levies down I one half mill each and one levy I raised by oiw ml'l, the total result re-sult was the same, 28.75 mills. With the Bank of Iron County's lease on the main portion of the city office building due to expire ex-pire in the near future, Mayor Joseph reported that the council had been approached by the bank officials to arrange a renewal re-newal of this lease. The Council, after studying the matter, drew up a tentative proposition to be presented for the bank's action, according to Mayor Joseph. The city under this tentative lease agreement proposes to continue con-tinue to rent the bank use! por- tlon of the building to that institution insti-tution for $110 per month, with the city to furnish heat, but the bank to pay for its public utilities, utili-ties, lights and water, now furnished fur-nished by the city. This lease would be for one year only, according ac-cording to Mayor Joseph. |
