Convention in Salt Lake City, October 11. 12, 13, young men and their leaders are planning plan-ning to take advantage of the Indian Summer weather which normally gives us warm, pleasant pleas-ant days with cool nights, Just right for sleeping. Trails and camps sites considered consid-ered by local Troops and Posts are the Old Spanish Trail from Newcastle to Veyo and perhaps 15 miles beyond to qualify for the 50 Miler afoot or afloat - or perhaps the old Union Trail from Kanarraville to Navajo Lake, a distance of 22 miles. Another award which may be earned by the same trip under the right circumstances is the "Historic Trails" award provided ,by the Boy Scouts of America without cost to the individual. These attractive awards have been very popular throughout the country as Scouts and Explorers Ex-plorers rediscover America and learn more of the Pioneer Lore and the trails they trod. "We are waiting for the nominating nom-inating committee to make their final contacts before announcing the slate to the District Scouters," said E. Louis McClellan, Field Scout Executive. Other Districts of the area arc fairly well organized at present and Unit organization is much farther along this year than ever before. This promises to be the biggest year for scouting for some time because of two Jamborees, Jam-borees, the Fourth National Jamboree Jam-boree at Valley Forge, set for July 12 through 18, and Jubilee Jamboree in England commemorating commem-orating the 50th Anniversary of the Founding of Scouting. Scoutmasters, for the most part, have been given the information in-formation regarding reservation fees, and the total cost of the National Jamboree. The deadline for reservations has been set for November 1st at which time all applicants will be notified of their place In the program. Anyone desiring more information informa-tion as to cost and requirements may secure help by calling Field Scout Executive, Louis McClellan at 1179 or 651-M on weekends or Mondays and Saturday mornings every week at the Chamber of Commerce office adjacent to the Southern Utah Power Co. office In Cedar City. |
