Construction Takes League Lead TEAM STANDINGS Construction 4 1 .800 Parks 3 2 .600 Power 2 3 .400 Arden 1 4 .200 Utah Construction maintained the lead in the Cedar City Pony League race with two victories scored in the past week of play. The first victory was a 14 to 4 win over Southern Utah Power Thursday evening and the second sec-ond was a hard fought win over Utah Parks Tuesday evening, 8 to 7. Lory Misel, strong righthander for the Utah Construction crew was credited with both wins giving giv-ing him a total of four, all of his teams victories, thus far this season. sea-son. Arden Dairy on the other hand, wsa pushed into the cellar spot, suffering losses to Utah Parks and to Power. Parks downed the Dairymen 13 to 6 Friday and Power outlasted them 6 to 2 Wednesday evening. Construction took the lead over Power In the first Inning of play, pushing over three runs without the aid of a hit. The miners took advantage of three errors and three walks, given up by pitcher Kent Smith, to get three runs. In the third they put the game on ice wih a spree of seven hits and as many runs. Jeff Marchant clouted out his second homer of the season in that frame and Misel aided the cause with a double. Power pushed In single runs In the first and fifth frames and added a pair In the third for their four points. They collected only four hits and Misel left 14 standing at the plate in the game. Arden Dairy committed 13 errors er-rors in Friday night's losing effort ef-fort to the Parks, 13 to 6. Sam Chamberlain was the winning pitcher allowing fc.ir hits and three runs in six frames and posting 14 strikeouts. He was relieved re-lieved in the seventh by Danny Lindsay. Losing pitcher was Steven Cahoon. Cahoon, however, homered In the second for Arden, his second of the season and I nnle Roberts of Parks homered In the fourth fram with two men on base to account for three of the rurs of the Inning. Tuesday evening Utah Construction Con-struction came out on the long end of an 8 7 win over Parks in one of the season's most interesting interest-ing games. Misel again was crl-dlted crl-dlted with the win. The fast action ac-tion game, which featured outstanding out-standing pitching by Misel and Leigh Rosenberg for Parks for the first four and one half innings in-nings exploded Into a free running run-ning event. Parks picked up a score in the first frame on two hits by Danny Lindsay and Chamberlain. Construction retaliated retal-iated In the third with a single score to tie up the game. Parks exploded for four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, but Construction, not to be outdone, out-done, pushed over seven runs on three hits and four walks to take an 8 to 5 lead. In the bottom half of the final inning Farks pushed In two runs, but were unable to catch the league leaders. Misel allowed five hits, Rosenberg four and Chamberlain, who relieved in the sixth, none in the tight game. Calvin Hair picked up his second sec-ond win of the season Wednesday Wednes-day evening in pitching his Power crew to a 6 to 2 win over Arden. Hair allowed four hits, two in the fourth frame, which accounted for all of Arden's scores. Power's scoring was scattered scat-tered with single runs crossing the plate in the first, second, third and fifth Innings and two in the sixth to collected the six counters. Larry Anderson, losing pitcher, allowed only four hits. |
