Show Owner Plans To Rebuild Following Fire Plans are now being made by Clarence Miller to rebuild the structure which housed the Miller Mil-ler Auto Parts and Fair Deal Motor Co. on West Center street, which was totally destroyed in a fire last Friday, that raged uncontrolled un-controlled at times because of repeated re-peated explosions within the building. Estimates of the damage suffered suf-fered - have ranged anywhere from $75,000 to $150,000. How-ever, How-ever, Mr. Miller has been in Salt Lake City this week conferring with the insurance company, and is expected back in Cedar City this evening. The fire began when gasoline which was being drained into a can from a gas tank, overflowed and quickly spread to a nearby acetylene torch. The gasoline exploded ex-ploded followed by numerous other detonations as cans of an- ti-freeze, paint' thinner, oil, gasoline gas-oline and tires caught fire. Spectators Spec-tators also lent a hand when they helped pull a blazing truck from one of the entrances, which was hampering the firemen in fighting the fire. One new truck and two other trucks were lost by Mr. Miller in the fire. Loss in the Fair Deal Motor portion of the building was confined to tires, parts and equipment in the shop. Six cars which were in the shop, including includ-ing one on a hoist, were quickly gotten out of the building before be-fore they could be damaged. Forty firemen from the local volunteer department battled the blaze, and were assisted in the last half hour by 20 firemen and a pump truck from Parowan. The fire was finally brought under un-der control by noon, but firemen were not dismissed from the scene until 1:15 p. m. Mr. Miller has announced intentions in-tentions of rebuilding. The walls are still usable, but everything else will be new, Including a new style roof. The beginning of the reconstruction work will depend de-pend upon the availability of the necessary steel. He Is now doing business from his garages attached at-tached to his apartment house, which Is just south and west of the burned-out building. Neil Boyter, owner and manager man-ager of the Fair Deal Motor company, com-pany, has moved a trailer on the lot adjoining his portion of the building and Is now doing business. |
