The well will be drilled on property belonging to Richard Wlllmms, located adjacent to highway 91, and 4.7 miles from the city limits. In addition to asking for bids for the work involved in-volved city officials also have taken steps to acquire a lease on or to purchase the land on which the well will be located, and easements over land on which the well will be located, and casements over land on which the pipe line must be laid. Three Notices to Contractors appear in this issue of the Iron County Record for various phases of the water development project. pro-ject. The first asks for bids for drilling drill-ing the well, including the drilling drill-ing of a 12 or 16 inch well to a depth of 300 to 400 feet. A request is made that bids be filed for drilling on a footage basis and also on an hourly basis. Request is also made that the bids be for drilling the well with and without casing, and also for setting set-ting and welding of the casing. The bids are to be opened at the city offices at 4 p. m. on Thursday, Thurs-day, April 17. The second notice asks for bids on approximately 23,800 linear feet of excavation, pipe laying and backfilling for the laying of a line from the well to the tank. The contract would include excavation ex-cavation of a trench 3 feet deep and at least 2 feet wide, laying of 23,800 feet of 12-inch, 7-gauge, steel lap joint pipe, including fittings fit-tings laid and connected, except ex-cept for the welding, and backfilling back-filling of the trench. The third notice asks for bids for welding of the pipe line. The pipe will be in. 40 foot lengths and the line would include approximately ap-proximately 600 joints. The pipe for the line from the new well to the tank has already been delivered to the city, and under the terms of the contracts to be let the city will deliver the pipe and fittings at the trench-side. trench-side. An important element of the contracts is the question of time, with each bidder asked to stipulate stipu-late earliest date on which work could be started. Attempts will be made to get the water into the system as early as possible to avoid any chance of a water shortage during the summer months. |
