Show Highway Group Organized for Southern Utah Representatives of city government, govern-ment, chamber of commerce and civic clubs and groups from Ne-phl Ne-phl on the north and St George on the south on Highway 91 met at Hotel El Escalante Wednesday Wednes-day to organize a Highway 91 Association. As-sociation. Temporary officers for the organization or-ganization were named as follows: fol-lows: Ray Knell, local motel owner, temporary president. Secretary is Browning Piatt of Cedar City and vice president is W. A. Mundy of Fillmore. Four other board members' were named as follows; Lee Bailey, of Nephi; E. J. King, Parowan; Dee Stapley, Beaver, and Bert Milne of St. George. Conducting the meeting was Clarence Miller, president of the Cedar City Chamber of Commerce and the objectives of the meeting were pointed out by Knell who has been active In attempting the organization of such a highway group. Similar Groups Knell also pointed out the fact that similar organizations on other oth-er national highways have been operating satisfactorily for some time. He mentioned specifically Highway 30 Assn.; Highway 66 Assn., and the Highway 89 Association As-sociation and the work they are attempting to do. Las Vegas was also Invited to attend but previous obligations of the chamber of commerce representative rep-resentative from that city made it Impossible for them to attend. Representatives were in attendance attend-ance from Nephi, Fillmore, Beaver, Bea-ver, Parowan, Cedar City and St. George. Host of the organizational meeting was the local chamber of commerce. Following the general meeting the newly elected officers of the association met to name a delegation dele-gation to attend a meeting of Highway 30 Association at Raw-llngi Raw-llngi Wyo., later this month. Knell, Bailey and a representative representa-tive of Beaver and St. George were authorized to attend the convention at Rawllngs. The nine cities represented at Wednesday's meeting will be asked to help finance this trip, It Is understood. |
