Show Wireworms May Be Controlled by Soil Fumigants Soil pests, such as nematodes and wireworms, now can be controlled con-trolled by means of soil fumigants, fumi-gants, pointed out Dr. G. F. Knowlton, Utah State Agriculutr-al Agriculutr-al college extension agronomist. Research by U. S. Department of Agriculture mematologist Gerald Ger-ald Thorne, in Utah, and by Dr. Dr. M. W. Allen and associates of the University of California, have in recent years advanced our knowledge of nematode control con-trol methods. Wireworms may be controlled by soil fumigants when no crop is in the ground, or by means of DDT or chlordane, applied at 7 to 10 pounds of the actual chemical, chem-ical, plowed or thoroughly cultivated cul-tivated into the soil. Either method will do much to eliminate elimin-ate wireworm injury to corn, potatoes po-tatoes and other crops, the college col-lege entomologists pointed out. |
