Show Cedar High Redmen Ready for Final Practice Games Prior to Entering Tough League Play Pre--season games for the Cedar Ce-dar City High School Redmen have almost been completed. Coach Ray Knglestead has two more games remaining on the schedule prior to the league opener, which is set for January 6. Home and home games remain re-main to be played against the Parowan High School Rams. The first of the two will be staged at Parowan tonight, Dec. 23 and the final contest of the pre-sea-son schedule will be featured at the College of Southern Utah Fieldhouse on Thursday, Dec. 30. Prepare for Grind This will wrap it up for the Redmen before they settle down to the grind of league play where every game counts. The experimental stage will be over, and Coach Englestead should have a fairly accurate estimate off what his boys can do. As the pre-season games progress pro-gress and the comparative strength of other league teams are revealed the Redmen may find that their toughest test may be the opening game. January 6 on the local floor the Redmen entertain the Dixie Flyers of St. George and the past week's play would indicate that this battle may be one for league honors. Dixie pushed over a strong Parowan High School team at Beaver Saturday evening and proved themselves to be a hustling, hust-ling, sharp outfit capable of giving giv-ing the Redmen considerable difficulty dif-ficulty in their quest for league honors. Still in Picture Hurricane, always a strong contender, has scored less impressive im-pressive victories over mutual opponents, but cannot be counted count-ed completely out of the picture. jThey played South Sevier and and Spanish Fork this week on oposite nights to the Redmen. Spanish Fork forced them into an overtime period and South Sevier took a commanding first quarter lead only to lose hy a small margin to the Tigers. Enterprise has been showing spunk this year, but are not highly tauted regardless of their win record. They have played teams rated comparatively lower on a state-wide basis. Kauai) and Valley High Schools are always strong on their own floors but in the past have had difficulty on the larger floors of the district. dis-trict. All indications would point to a race between tho Redmen and the Flyers of St. George, putting emphasis on the opening league game, January 6. |
