Show Last Rites Performed For 83-year Old Parowan Resident Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon in the Parowan Paro-wan Third ward chapel for Lewis M. Lowder, S3, who died at his home here early Saturday morning morn-ing following a long illness and general debility. The services were conducted by Bishop Karl O. Mitchell after which burial took place in the city cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah mortuary. Hugh L. Adams, Arthur Joseph, and W. L. Adams were speakers at the services with remarks by the bishop. John W. Bentley offered the opening prayer, Samuel Sam-uel J. Whitney offered the closing one. and at the cemetery the dedicatory prayer was offered by Jess W. Guymon. A male quartet consisting of Ray Lyman, Verl Taylor. Harold Mitchell and Ivan Decker sang the opening song "Oh My Father," Fath-er," accompanied by Mrs. Mary Lyman, and also the closing number, "Abide With Me." Other musical numbers were a vocal solo, "A Perfect Day," by Rula D. Orton and an organ solo by Mrs. Orna Johnson, who was also it the organ for the prelude pre-lude and postlude. Lewis Monroe Lowder was born in Parowan on Feb. 25, 1870, a son of John and Emily Hodgetts Lowder and has resided here all of his life. He was married to Ida Smith, in Parowan Oct. 19, 1898 and the marriage was later solemnized in the St. George L. D. S. temple. He was a member mem-ber of the High Priests quorum of the Parowan stake. He engaged in farming and tending livestock all of his life until his health wouldn't permit per-mit him to do so. Surviving are his widow, one son, Clarence, Lowder, Salt Lake City; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and the following fol-lowing brothers and sisters: William Wil-liam J. and Marion E. Lowder; Mrs. Emma Webb and Mrs. Zil- pha Guymon, Parowan, and Mns. Kate Jensen. Los Angeles. Calif- |
