Show VISION MORE ABOUT THAT SHOOTING EYE The" actual process of focusing that shoot'in eye is more involved than one would think. It is necessary for the eye to change focus from the back sight to the front sight to the target in an instant. This process is technically called accommodation, and means that the muscles inside the eyes are adjusting the focus or accommodating the eye for the various distances involved. This change of focus is brought about by the lens which is inside everyone's eye. Yes, everyone wears lenses whether he realizes it or not, and it is the constantly changing shape of that little lens which enables us to look both up close and far away with these versatile eyes of ours. It is the loss of this focusing ability, usually between the ages of 40 and 50, that brings on the need for bifocals or reading glasses. The most common complaint among patients of this age in the optometrist's office is, "My eyes are all right, but my arms aren't long enough." Owing to the hardening of the lens, it is no longer able to focus or accommodate for things up close. It is along about this age that the back sight begins to blur up for riflemen. There is nothing that can be done to correct this condition con-dition with glasses, aside from supplying the hunter with the best possible distance vision. There are two solutions to this problem for the rifleman, though. He can trade in his open sights for either a peep sight or scope. A peep sight or scope solves this problem because it eliminates the necessity of adjusting to the rear sight. Lenses cannot help, at present anyway, owing to the rapidity with which this focusing must be dont?. A word of practical advice to all "dyed-in-the-wool" hunters would be in order at this point. This trouble in focusing occurs for practically everyone as part of the normal process of growing older. So, if you still want to tramp up and down those hills after you're 50 with that trusty rifle on your back, it would be best to get acquainted acquaint-ed with a good scope right now! |
