Show Six To Vie For Annual 'Miss Cedar City' Title Wednesday Talent and Beauty To Decide City's Title Winner Wednesday evening, April 13, at the Public School auditorium the annual Miss Cedar City Contest, Con-test, sponsored by the Junior Chamber of Commerce, will be staged, according to Jack Thuet, -chairman. Six lovely Misses will vie for the coveted honor, displaying their talent, beauty, poise and charm In their climb to the title. Vivacious Carol ' Ann Parry, Miss( Cedar City of 1954, will relinquish her frown to the winner. Judges for the event will be selected from out of town to Insure In-sure an Impartial selection. The six Misses vying for the crown and their respective sponsors spon-sors are as follows:' Ruthell Lamoreaux, Macfar-lane Macfar-lane Shell Service; Iva Lynn Cosslett, Castloton's; ReNee Gentry, Gen-try, Cedar City Elks; Helen Harris, Har-ris, Kiwanis Club; Jackie Ward, Utah Parks Company, and Mar-pene Mar-pene Isom. Lions Club. Walter Lowe will act as master of ccremonie-s for the event which gets underway at 8:00 p. m. Varied Show Promised A varied and diversified show Is promised patrons of the popular popu-lar contest. The young Misses will appear in formal attire, in swimming suits, and will each 'give a short talent number in the competition that has been so close In the past. Judges will base their decisions on talent, beauty of face and figure, poise and personality. The committee lias been working work-ing hard to make the event one of the top shows of the year. Winner of the coveted title will reign throughout the 1955 year and will also win a trip to Salt Lake City and the Miss Utah Pa-geant. Pa-geant. Winner of the state event -will be eligible for the Miss America Contest at Atlantic City, "New Jersev. Ruthell Lamoreaux, a talented miss, Is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Lamoreaux and Is a sophomore student at College of Southern Utah. Her talent for the contest will be a dramatic reading read-ing from the play "The Wingless Victory." She has been active In , extra-curricular events throughout through-out her school career. She is sponsored by Macfarlane Shell Service. Variety to the show will be offered of-fered by Iva Lynn Cosslett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Cosslett, who will display her dancing talent as her specialty number. Also a sophomore at CSU, she Is affiliated with the Thl Alpha Beta Sorority. Sponsoring Spon-soring Miss Cosslett Is Castle-ton's. Castle-ton's. , . Active in High School ReNee Gentry, 18, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Gentry, is a senior at Cedar City High School where she is active as vice president pre-sident of her class, member of FHA and pep band. Recently she was awarded second place in the Elks Club Leadership contest. con-test. She is also a majorette with the high school band. Margene Isom is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Waldon Isom and will be sponsored by the Lions 'Club. A talented student at the Cedar City High School, she is a popular student and a topnotch student. She Is particularly active in events sponsored by the Home Economics department. Last, but not least, of the contestants con-testants is Helen Harris, 18, under the sponsorship of the Kiwanis Club. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rex Harris. Chosen as the high school girl of the year in 1954, she has also reigned as "Queen of Argos" at the University Univers-ity of Utah this year. At the present pre-sent time she Is employed at the Utah Construction Company as a secretary. |
