Show 1 4 V , if" v f ' ; -V- " X.V : ACROSS THE WORLD With The v':::: Southern Utah Federalized & NATIONAL GUARD fj BY KLIEN ROLLO Films From Home Take Interest of Men; Members of 213th Honorary Citizens of Wash. Somewhere in Korea: Two things have been of tremendous tre-mendous importance to the men of the 213th recently the morion mo-rion picture films that John Row-berry Row-berry sent over, and the tape recording re-cording that the Lions and radio ra-dio station provided us with. Both were very welcome and have pleased everyone very much. They have given us a contact with home that has really meant a lot to everyone. Vhrn duff Jolley waved at us in that colored film it made us a i Jit lo jealous at first, but then wc began to realize that it had happened to him, so maybe it ttnitd happen to us. While we all have hopes that the rotation program will become effective for us very soon, and that we can return home before too long, there has been no official of-ficial word on it yet, so all we can do is wait. The weather lias been like Utah's Indian Summer for the past month, hut we know that winter Is not far away and we have been getting ready for it, checking out our winter clothing and setting up stoves. We were very pleased recently when Wesley A C'hadburn, a Ve-yo Ve-yo man with Headquarters Mattery, Mat-tery, was presented with a Bronze Star with a Valor medal attached. at-tached. He was honored for displaying dis-playing heroism against the enemy ene-my in the action north of Kap-yong Kap-yong on 27 May, 1!)"1. People at home have read and heard of I his exploits in that battle, j The Battalion received a handmade hand-made certificate from the State of Washington last week making the members of the 213th honorary honor-ary citizens of the state, in recognition rec-ognition of friendship between Washington and Utah. Displayed on the certificate were the flags of the two states. It reads as follows: fol-lows: "In the name of the State of Washington, Earl Coe, Secretary Secre-tary of State. To whom these presents pre-sents shall come: Greetings: Know ye, that 213th Armored I'ield Artillery Battalion is hereby here-by commissioned Honorary Washington citizen under the laws of the state of Washington, with all rights, privileges, and emoluments appertaining to said office. In recognition of friendship friend-ship between Washington and Utah. (The official Seal of Hie State of Washington was affixed) in icsumony wnereot, i nave hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of said state to be affixed at Olympia this 3()tli day of August A. D 1951. Signed, Earl Coe, Secretary of State." We have been rather busy in the past little while with our firing batteries supporting the liOKs. The men in the firing units surely had to work hard, but we are expecting a group of new men very soon to build our strength which will naturally lighten the burden of the units. We have been expecting to move most any time and for once a move will be welcomed by most of the men. As much as they have disliked moving in the past, life has become rather monotonous mon-otonous on this steep pass, and most of the men will be mighty glad to get out on level ground again. Our firing batteries are out in front of us, and we expect that the Service Battery will be moving up our way. |
