Show Broncos Score Impressive Victory In Edaina Palo Verde J.C., 25 to 21 Coming from behind for the third time in the last three minutes min-utes of the game the Branch Agricultural Ag-ricultural college football team took the measure of a powerful Palo Verde junior college team at Blythe, Calif. Saturday night. The victory, won by a 25 to 21 margin, was perhaps the most impressive of the Bronco season, since the high ranking California squad had not been defeated in previous games played in the strong California junior college league. With only three minutes left in the last quarter of the game the Californians scored to take a 21 to 18 lead, and it looked like the Rronco's cause was lost. However, Coach Dave Gates' squad drove back down the field after the kickoff to score, with Winston Christensen, fullback, charging across the goal line for the touchdown, touch-down, and Tex Everett kicking the extra point to put the Broncos Bron-cos out in the lead 25 to 21. The Palo Verde squad took a 7 to 0 lead in the first quarter when a well executed pass play resulted in a touchdown. In the second period, however, the Broncos Bron-cos started to roll, and took a 12 to 7 lead. Romer Scott went through the line for seven yards and the first Bronco score, but the point was missed and the Californians hung onto a one point margin. However, another drive was started which culminated in another score when Roy Jones traveled 12 yards to cross the goal line. In the third quarter the Pirates again jumped into the lead with a touchdown and a point after touchdown, and it began to look like the Bronco's failure to convert con-vert might be the margin of victory. However, the Broncos again climbed into the lead when a pass from Doug McShane to Dayle Rust brought another score. Again the try for point was unsuccessful, but the score stood, BAC 18, Palo Verde, 14. Again in the fourth quarter the Palo Verde team mustered a scoring scor-ing Punch and marched 40 yards on a sustained drive to jump into the lead as the end of the game neared. However, the Broncos Bron-cos showed plenty of fight and came back to march onto the enemy's goal line and set the stage for Christensen's winning touchdown. A last minute desperate des-perate Palo Verde attempt to score was stopped as Bud Camp recovered a fumble, and the Broncos smothered the ball for the remaining seconds. The Broncos are reported to have played their best game of the season both on offense and defense, with the passing combination com-bination of McShane and Rust, and the ball toting of Roy Jones being specially outstanding. Kent Myers again played an outstanding out-standing game, and the consistent consist-ent performance of the entire squad brought defeat to the powerful pow-erful California squad. This week the Broncos will travel tra-vel to Rexburg, Idaho, to tangle with a strong, but twice defeated defeat-ed Ricks college team, in the third league encounter for the BAC squad. The local team has three wins, in non-conference games, and has tied in its two league games, tieing Carbon 7 to 7, and Westminster 0 to 0. The Vikings have won two and lost two conference games, defeating Carbon 20 to 0, and Dixie 39 to 7, but losing to Boise by a substantial sub-stantial margin and to the Westminster West-minster Parsons by a score of 32 to 13. Following the Ricks game the Broncos will meet Snow and Dixie colleges in the final league games of the season. In other ICAC games of the week the Boise Broncos took the measure of the Weber Wildcats by the slim margin of 13 to 12, and the Snow Badgers walloped the Carbon Eagles 40 to 0. |
