Show Highway Accident Takes Lives Of Two Californians Two residents of Los Angeles, Francis B. Clark, 71, and Mrs. Rhea R. Clark, 50, were fatally Injured In an automobile accident early Sunday morning at the Ash Creek bridge South of Cedar City. A third passenger and driver of the car, James R. Clark, 49, suffered fractured frac-tured ribs and minor cuts and bruises and Is recovering satisfactorily. satisfac-torily. According to George Cooper, Showalter Distributing Company truck driver, who witnessed the accident, ac-cident, the Los Angeles car apparently appar-ently skidded on some loose gravel on the highway where repairs were being made. It swerved across the road, crashed Into the concrete abutment of the bridge, and then overturned down the steep embankment. em-bankment. Mrs. Clark died within a short time after the accident and before help could be summoned from Cedar Ce-dar City. She was dead upon the arrival of Sheriff Kent Smith and Dr. J. S. Prestwlch, who were notified no-tified of the accident by passing motorists. Mr. Clark died Sunday at 4 p. m. at the Iron County hospital of Internal Injuries. He was pinned In the wreckage of the car for some time and suffered severe shock In addition to his Injuries. The accident happened at about 2:30 a. m. as the trio were returning return-ing to their homes after visiting with relatives In northern Utah. The two deaths brought Washington Wash-ington county's 1947 traffic fatality toll to three as compared to two during the same period of 194S. |
