Show U. of U. Receives Unusual Scholarship Grant A scholarship grant of $85,000 has been given the University of Utah by the Ford Foundation. Dr. A. Ray Olpin, president of the University, announced as the institution prepared for Commencement Com-mencement week. Purpose of the valuable grant is to take 40 students who have completed three years of high school and place them directly into college in order that they might finish two years of college work before being called into military service. "It is hoped." said Dr. Olpin, "that tlys will help solve the problem of what to do with the exceptionally good student and will, at the same time, better train young people prior to their induction." Utah is the only school in the west to be so honored. Administration of the program will be headed by Dr. O. Meredith Mere-dith Wilson, deal of the University Uni-versity College, and Dr. Sydney W. Angleman, assistant dean and director of gereral education. educa-tion. Curriculum for the first year of study will include mathematics, English, social and natural sciences sci-ences and physical education. The second year will include humanities, hu-manities, natural and social sciences, sci-ences, languages, mathematics, and military science and tactics. Students will be selected from all over Utah no other states will be included on the basis of their high school scholastic performance, aptitude and adaptability. adap-tability.
