Show Forest Officials Plan Fight Against Fire As Season Opens The forest and range fire season sea-son in southern Utah has officially offi-cially started, according to Bert II. Tucker, forester, in charge of tire control for the Dixie National Na-tional forest. The first fire on forest land has been suppressed, fno fire training will be completed complet-ed Friday, June S, with a school at Ritchie flat, ner Pinto. Forester Tucker reports that a very successful training school was conducted May 28 at Bryce Canyon National park, with the cooperation of the Park Service and Deputy State Forester John Burt, Jr. Over 100 participants reported re-ported in from Escalante, Circle-ville, Circle-ville, Panguitch, Tropic, and towns near the Dixie National forest. Chief Ranger John G. Lewis Le-wis of the Park Service was host to the group and handled training train-ing in suppression of small fires. Forest Rangers Max Rees, Grant Williams, Thomas Phillips and Reed Thomson assisted with crew training in small fire suppression and mop-up. Under the direction of Assistant Assist-ant Supervisor Leland Heywood a mobilization and recruitment program is being activated, to line up fire fighters in every community near the forest. These fire crews are a part of civil defence set up, and will be called on to protect forest and range lar.ds in the event of a fire emergency, whether caused by enemy action or natural conditions. |
