Heap of Parowan, who more than 50 years ago, underwent surgery for the amputation of his left leg, the first major operation ever performed in Cedar City. The operation was performed by Dr. George W. Middleton, his first step toward a career that brought him national fame. The old John Sherratt home, pictured here, where the operation was performed served as Cedar City's first hospital. hos-pital. The home stood on First West street where the L. M.
