Show CONTRACT OF $299,723.70 LET FOR CANYON ROAD CONSTRUCTION Work on the reconstruction of the Cedar canyon highway from Cedar City to the forest boundary at Wood's Ranch was started Monday morning when the Gibbons Gib-bons and Reed Construction Company Com-pany of Salt Lake City began moving heavy equipment onto the Job. The Gibbons and Reed company com-pany were the successful bidders bid-ders on the Job, receiving the contract for $299,723.70. Three other bids were submitted as fellows: Reynolds Construction Company, Springville, $421,102.-50; $421,102.-50; L. T. Johnson Company, of Ogden, $398,298.50, and W. W. Clyde and Company, Springville, $344,490.50. The contract calls for the reconstruction re-construction of six and one half miles of road from the bridge over Coal creek at Fourth East and Center streets in Cedar City, to the bridge over the creek at Martin's Flat. From the Martin Flat bridge to the forest boundary boun-dary the Job calls only for "fine" grading to put the road In con dition for oil mulch at a later date. Only a dust coat of oil will be laid under the present contract There is one exception to the grading of the upper section of the road. For a short distance from the coal mine on the highway high-way to the mouth of the gulch the roadway will be realigned, cutting it back Into the hillside to avoid slides that have occurred in the area. The contract calls for 46,000 yards of excavation in this section. The complete contract covers a total of 10.6 miles of highway. T. V. Toolson, superintendent of construction for the Gibbons and Reed Comapny, states that considerable con-siderable heavy equipment and about fifty men will be used on the Job. He also states that work on the Job will be rushed, as rapidly as possible. He points out that because of the terrain over most of the distance, dis-tance, detours will be impossl ble, and appeals to the traveling public to drive with extreme caution to avoid accidents. "Everything possible will be done to keep the road safe for travel" he said, "and workmen will delay travel as little as possible, pos-sible, and the whole-hearted cooperation co-operation of the motorist will be gicatly appreciated." |
