Show VOTERS TO SETTLE POWER ISSUE FRIDAY CITIZENS CAST BALLOTS ON REVENUE BONDS Citizens of Cedar City will go to the polls Friday to cast their votes on a revenue bond issue which will determine whether or not Cedar City wants to purchase the distribution system of the Southern Utah Power Company. The proposed purchase is part of a Rural Electrification Administration Admin-istration plan to furnish power to southern Utah through a group of electrical cooperatives. REA has already approved $9 millions in loans to the five southern Utah co-ops. The bulk of the loan was made to the Southwest Utah Power Federation of Cedar City, which is composed of the five co-ops. The Federation Federa-tion will use this loan to generate gen-erate and transmit power to the member organizations. So far, the plan has met with much opposition in Cedar City, with both sides claiming that they will furnish adequate and cheaper power. If the people of Cedar City vote for the ordinance, revenue bonds totaling $375,000 would be Issued by the city for the pur chase of the distribution system, maintenance and expansion. The city would then buy power at wholesale rates from the federation. federa-tion. However, If the people vote against the Issuing of the bonds, the Southern Utah Power Company Com-pany will reorganize, as per a court order, and continue Its operation op-eration In southern Utah. Some bondholders have stated that additional power will be made available and the rates will be Investigated if the citizens of Cedar City vote against the bond Issue. Polls will be open from 7 a. m. until 8 p. m. on Friday, December 30. Polling places are, District No. 1. City and Countv buildine: District No. 2. Lunt-Heywood Co. building; District No. 3, Second ward chapel; District No. 4, L. M. Jones Equipment company building, and District No. 5. Southern Utah Lumber and Coal company. Any registered voter may cast a ballot in the election. However, How-ever, anyone who pays a property proper-ty tax will receive a blue ballot to vote upon, in addition to the white ballot which everyone receives. |
