Elks Launch Program To Teach Youth Of Their Heritage New York As part of their national program to "Make Democracy De-mocracy work", the Order of Elks today launched a plan to make available to schools a slide film pictorial history called "Our American Am-erican Heritage". The films were produced by The Reader's Digest In cooperation with The American Ameri-can Heritage Foundation and the National Education Association. General editor of the series was Marquis James, the noted historian. his-torian. "Education of youth is a vital part of our program to make democracy work to which our members have rallied so effectively", effec-tively", said Mr. Hall, "I think I know as well as anyone the opportunities offered the youth of this country. America has been good to me. In return, I want to do all In my power to help our youth of today. "The youth of America must be told of their heritage as Americans. Am-ericans. The Freedom Train, which was so well received throughout the country, demonstrated demon-strated how important this can be. It is only through education of this type that we can combat com-bat subversive influences at work to destroy the faith of our youth in democracy. We know that it is a basic part of communist strategy to weaken democracy by subverting youth." |
