Although conference was cancelled because of adverse weather conditions, Miss Clark and Mr. Barlow delivered addresses to two conference sessions that it was possible to hold. Blocked Roads Force Cancellation oi Rural Life and Education Conference The Rural Life and Education Conference, scheduled to be held in Cedar City on Tuesday and Wednesday, was abandoned because be-cause of blocked highways and disrupted transportation caused by the latest storms of Saturday and Sunday and the heavy winds of Monday. A complete schedule of meetings meet-ings had been outlined for the two-day event, but with highways high-ways and railroads blocked throughout the state it was deemed advisable to cancel the conference, except for two sessions ses-sions that could be conducted by leaders who had arrived before the storm closed the roads. Two sessions were held, one Tuesday afternoon and one Tues-day Tues-day evening, with Miss Lois Clark, Washington, assistant director di-rector of rural services, National Nation-al Educational Association, as the principal speaker at each session. The evening meeting featured a concert by the Master Singers, and a panel discussion on dTir democratic way of life by eight high school students from Cedar City and Parowan high schools. Miss Winnifred Hazen, consultant consult-ant in family life education, was discussion leader. Students participating parti-cipating included LaVonna Guy-mon, Guy-mon, Cleo Robinson, Orland Evans Ev-ans and Gene Benson, Parowan; Mary Hirschl, Marilyn Miles, Walter Gibson and David Dix, Cedar City. Miss Clark's subject was "Emerging Patterns of Democratic Democra-tic Living". William Snow, central cen-tral committee chairman, Cedar City coordinating council, presided. pre-sided. N. J. Barlow, assistant state superintendent of public instruction, instruc-tion, and Miss Clark were principal prin-cipal speakers at the afternoon session. |
