Show TT IT will be remembered that Mr Frank J JJ J. J Cannon at a lecture which he J delivered h here re last year spoke of the j necessity of establishing a Students' Students Memorial Library His idea was that every student should upon his graduation graduation graduation tion leave one or more books with the University University- as a token of gone by-gone college days that these books should contain his name and address that they should be kept in a separate apartment of the library and that when a sufficient number number number num num- ber had been obtained they should be placed in a room b by themselves or at least wholly distinct from the regular library The purpose of this plan wa was twofold twofold twofold two two- fold First as the name would imply to leave some memorial of gone by-gone college college col col- OJ lege days to leave some testimony to the future student of the regard in which Alma Mater is held by those who perhaps perhaps per per- i haps have left her halls forever to maintain maintain maintain main main- tain as it were a family heirloom to cultivate by the tender feelings and recollections which will cluster about the library college spirit and loyalty to the University Secondly to aid in building up the University library which is fast becoming one of the finest in the West Inasmuch as the Memorial Library has not been pushed very much or brought prominently before the student body it has not as might be expected grown to any considerable size But as the project is such a commendable one there can be no doubt that under proper guidance it will meet with the success which it merits Mr Cannon will upon his return from Europe send in his gift which is expected to be a very valuable one A Afew Afew Afew few students ts and one or two of the professors professors professors pro pro- have handed number already in III a r of volumes so it is therefore with no small degree of pride and satisfaction that the CHRO CHRONICLE ICLE announces that the Memorial Library has begun I It t now remains for oj the students to show their devotion and interest in the University by fo following owing out the proposed plan which by the way is not necessarily intended for the graduates only but for the whole student body |
