Show LOSING FAITH The announcement released through the United Press Monday regarding National Guard units not being sent to Korea is nothing more than an insult to the intelligence intelli-gence of the people of Utah, and a very good example of why the American people have so little faith in their government leaders. The announcement stated that draftees drawn from National Guard units were being used to re-inforce divisions divis-ions in the battle area, but "none of the original guardsmen guards-men themselves will be taken". The ridiculousness of the statement is emphasized by the fact that it was released at the same time that Utah National guard units were landing on the shores of Korea. This is not a question of whether the national guard units should or should not be used, but is a concrete illustration il-lustration of the confusion and misleading statements eminating from government leaders from time to time. It is evident that many of the statements issued are merely statements of expediency, to meet any situation that should arise, and the majority of people not directly concerned would assume that the statement was correct. Undoubtedly an answer would be readily at hand should an explanation be asked for, since anyone who deliberately misleads is usually prepared with an expedient exped-ient answer in the event the original statement is questioned. ques-tioned. Is there any wonder that the people have lost faith in such leaders? |
