Show Parowan Observes 91st. Anniversary Of Settlement The ninety-first anniversary of the settlement of Parowan, first city to be founded south of Provo, was observed Tuesday, January 13, with a program in the Parowan L D. S. West Ward recreation hall. Albert M. Marsden, Parowan attorney, at-torney, was the principal speaket at the meeting, comparing sacrifices sacri-fices of the early Utah pioneers with those being made by Americans today Parowan's oldest living residents, Mrs. Emily Lowder, who will celebrate cele-brate her 101st birthday on January Janu-ary 21, and David Matheson, who is 86 years of age, also appeared on the program, Mrs. Lowder giving a short talk in which she voiced appreciation ap-preciation for the devotion and honor paid her by friends and relatives rel-atives in the community, and Mr. Matheson with a song. Recollections of pioneer experiences were given by J. F. Tolton of Beaver, who paid tribute to the Iron County community com-munity as the "parent city of Beaver." Following the program, a half-hour half-hour of old-time dancing was en-Joyed. |
