Show PIHsajos icjaunj pag uj puaa punoj uosp uqor Funeral services for John Peter Nelson, 77. who died Friday, were Iwld in the First Ward Chapel Monday Mon-day afternoon, with Counsellor H. P. Dotson presiding. Mr. Nelson, who had been in apparent ap-parent good health, was found dead in his bed only a few hours after he had been seen about the yard. He had been about the house and yard during the forenoon, and visit-ed visit-ed with neighbors during that time. He later went to his room to rest, and apparently died while sleeping. He was found by his daughters, Mrs. Angus Bulloch and Mrs. Clarence Clar-ence Miller. Mr. Nelson had suffered from an Infection In his foot and leg about a year ago, necessitating the amputation ampu-tation of his leg. However, he had recovered very nicely and had been feeling especially well during the past few weeks. He was born in Cedar City on December 11, 1865, a son of Bengt and Ellen Jensen Nelson, and resided re-sided here all his life. He had engaged en-gaged in farming most of his life, and also served as an employee of the State Road Commission for a-bout a-bout 25 years. He married Naomi Orion of Parowan on June 17, 1891. She died on March 8, 1933. Surviving are two sons and two daughters, Mrs. Mary N. Bulloch, Henry Nelson, Mrs. Selena N. Miller Mil-ler and Orton Nelson, all of Cedar City. Also surviving are seventeen grandchildren, three great grandchildren, grand-children, and two brothers. Isaac Nelson of Cedar City and Charles Nelson of Redwood City, California. He has four grandsons serving In the armed forces. Nelson Bulloch, serving In North Africa; McKay Nelson, In California, and Don and Dean Nelson at Fort Douglas. Speakers at the funeral services were Dr. Jas. S. Prestwlch. Alex H. Rollo, and Charles R. Hunter. The opening and closing songs. "I Need Thee Every Hour," and "Nearer My Ood To Thee." was by a mixed quartet composed of Alice Williams, Sarah A Wood, Wm. Mac-farlane Mac-farlane and Ray Cosslett, accompanied accom-panied by Mrs. J. M. Palmer. Other musical numbers were a string quartet composed of Lucille Crockett, Crock-ett, Beth Corry, Marilyn Jones and Roy L. Halversen, accompanied by Mrs. E. H. Macfarlane, an a vocal solo, "One Fleeting Hour," by Miles Walker, accompanied by Beth Leigh and Lucille Crockett. Invocation was by Wm. Macar-lane Macar-lane and benediction by Bp. Wm. B. Adams. |
