Show County Democrats Seek Housing:, Labor Solution j The Iron County Democratic Committee has begun an active campaign to provide housing for Veterans 0f Iron County, the action having been dech'fd upon at a meeting of the committee held at Parowan last Thursday evening, following a discussion of the locai situation. The committee members were ol the opinion that the best solution of a serious problem, particularly In Cedar City was to ask for i temporary housing program f, veterans built by the Federal Government, Gov-ernment, and rented to the veter. ans. County Democratic Officers have been instructed to contact Utah's congressional delegation and also the various government agencies In-' volved in an attempt to get the program under way. It was pointed out that other communities have undertaken such programs With very satisfactory results. The committee also decided to take steps to protpct the Jobs provided for local men, and requested the county officers to contact Governor Herbert B. Maw, and labor leaders of the state in an attempt to find a solution to this problem. Most motion picture companies have emplojd local men as drivers, etc. but It was pointed out that the 20th Century-Fox. now filming a picture at Blue Springs, had brought their drivers and other help from California with the result that a number of local men. were deprived of Jobs with th company. The committee com-mittee members felt that since the state had spent considerable money developing roads that might be used by the movie companies that all employment passible should go to local people. |
