Show City Council Contracts For Installation Of Parking Meters Soon The City Council at Its last regular re-gular meeting contracted for the Installation of parking meters on Main street and Mayor Myron F. Hlgbee announces that work on the installation Is expected to start by August 15th. The contract was signed on July 19th., and Mayor Hlgbee states that the company will make an attempt to have the Job completed In time for the opening of the State Mun. Iclpal League convention to be held here on August 29, 30 and 31st. Cedar City has been faced with i serious Main street parking problem prob-lem fox many years, with the situation sit-uation becoming steadily worse. Since the end of the war and the revival of tourist travel to the parks jf southern Utah, the parking problem prob-lem has become such that many visitors have been passing through .' the city without stopping because t It has been Impossible to find parking room In the business dls. trlct. The City Council has found that the installation of parking meters in others cities has completely solved the parking problem, and this was the deciding factor In tho council's decision to install the meters met-ers here. One hundred and seventy-five meters will be Installed on both sides of Main street between Csn. ter and First North Streets. In addition ad-dition meters will be Installed on Harding and Washington avenues about half way through the blocks. The contract provides that the meters shall be paid for from :ollectlons In the meters. A special officer will be placed In charge of the meters, to keep them In repair and to make col. lection, and he will also be charged with the responsibility of traffic unforcement on Main street. |
