In a nation-wide drive to fill critical vancancles In the nation's capital, the United States Civil Service Commission is calling for stenographers, typists, and clerks for positions In Washlnton, D. C. Starting salaries for most of these positions are (1,752 a year, Including Includ-ing overtime pay; some applicants wtlh experience may be appointed at tWO. Nq experience Is required for the 11,752 positions, but written tests are given. Clerks are required to take only a clerical test; typists, a clerical test and typing test; and stenographers, a clerical test, tvphR test, and stenography test. Examination Examin-ation are given In thousands of cities throughout the country. Those unable to provide typewriters for the typing test may be appointed as clerks and will be given an opportunity op-portunity to qualify ns typists ot stenographers after they arrive In Washington. Applicants must be at least 17 'i years old and must be citizens ot the United States. There are no maximum aje limits. Appointments will be war service appointments and will be made In accordance with War Manpower Commission policies and enjoyment stabilisation stabili-sation programs. Housing facilities are available In Washington, and opportunities for advancement In most government agencies are good.
