Show DinraipFQveififleini&s Oirn Mead T ie Made State Allocates Additional Funds ' To Complete Project In a series of meetings held during dur-ing the past week between county, state and federal officials, agreements agree-ments we:e reached which assure extensive and permanent improvement improve-ment on the road leading to the Iron mines west of Cedar City. The members of the State Road Commission and representatives of the Federal Bureau of Public Roads, after meeting in Salt Lake City with Wtrren H. Bulloch, chairman of the lion County Board of Commissioners Com-missioners and a member of the State Highway Planning Board, made a special trip' to Iron County Coun-ty to study the highway needs, with the result that definite agreements were reached for the development program. The State and Federal officials, recognizing the fact that mining In the county will undoubtedly continue con-tinue on a permanent ba is, decided that the highway leaping from Cedar City to the mines should be permanently located and sufflclent money spent to bring the road up to a secondary stanc'ard on a permanent per-manent location. They also decided that .topo&ed road development from the mine to Newcastle should be done on a permanent location, and ordered a survey made before work starts on that section of the highway. The State Commission membe:fc are of the opinion that when this highway Is completed it may become the main route from Cedar City to Newcastle and then on to Modena and the Nevada State line. The Federal Bureau had allocated allocat-ed $50,000 for Improvements on the road between Cedar City and the mine, and following the meetings here the State Commission approved approv-ed the expenditure of $20,000 of state funds in order to put the road on a permanent location. The $70,000 will be spent on the 8-i miles of road from the Pinto-Iron Mountain Junction to the section of road Improved last year. An additional ad-ditional $5,000 of state maintenance mainten-ance funds was allocated for improvement im-provement of the mile and a half of road from the Junction to the mine. M. C. Moffat, construction engineer, engi-neer, and Ray Gillies, maintenance engineer, for the state road commission, com-mission, were Instructed to ielect a permanent location for the road from the mine to Newcastle. Mr. Moffat and Mr. Olllis are making the survey of the area at the present pres-ent time. The Grazing Service, represented rep-resented by Glen Woodard, engineer, has agreed to start; improvements on this section as soon as the location lo-cation is made. Roy MoLeese, District Road Engineer, En-gineer, reports that work has already al-ready been started on getting the right-of-way for the Cedar-Iron Mountain road, and that construction construc-tion work should start In the next week or ten days. Additional lmjovementa will be made on the road leading from the stockyards west of Cedar City to the Iron Mountlnn-Newcaxtle road Junction. .The State Commission Commis-sion allocated $12,000 to straighten out the connection with the road from the Lund highway at the stockyards and to gravel and oil th entire strip to the Junction. Approval for this project was obtained sometime some-time ago, but iiten and equipment have not been available f ir the Job. While in the county the state ond federal officials, In company with the county commissioners, made a study of the Bear Valley area to determine the most testable test-able route for a road to connect highways 91 and 89 between Paragonah Para-gonah and Panguttch. and a promise prom-ise was made that a detailed survey would be made to determine a permanent per-manent location as soon as engineers engi-neers are available.
