Show B. A. C. BASKET BALL TEAM BEAT S ST. GEORGE Everybody was surprised last Saturday night when the B. A. C. team defeated St. George by the score of 21 to 1G. Because of the fact that Lunt, the star center of the local team was out of tho game, very few expected the score to bo anything but in St. George's favor. But there was no sign of discouragement j in the B. A. C. camp. Every i player went into the game with i tho determination to "do or dio" and they put up tho scrappiest game seen on the local floor for some time. Dixie expected a walk away. They, had their hopes rudely shattered right from the first, for it was not long after "the game started that A. C. had a basket. At the end of the firs five minutes of play the score stood five to five and local fans and spectators saw hope of a victory. That their hopes would be realized was soon evident and tho crowd went wild. It seemed that everything was A. C. The ball was in their possession pos-session most of the time and whenoveraSt. George man would get it he was sure to be closely guarded. St. George found their walk-away hopes shattered. They, had guessed right when they thought the local team would bo weakened by the loss df Lunt, but they had not counted on;the fight which A. C. had. As a result of tho absence"- of Lunt Captain Bunker went.' to center. He played a star gamo from whistle to whistle. Not only did he handle and lead his men intelligently in the game all the time, but played brilliantly himself. him-self. Like a flash he covered the floor and was always there with the goods whether pitching fouls, working the ball down the floor or guarding his man. Brooksby was also "there." He was always in the road when St. George got the ball, and the way he intercepted passes and guarded his man was a revelation to sore eyes. Hansen played the other guard position, and though he had a "day off" he made up for his inaccurate basket shooting shoot-ing and passing by his fighting and strenuous guarding. Jones at his regular position of forward was on the go all the time always al-ways ready to help work the ball toward his basket when called upon and on the spot guarding his man when he was in a dangerous dan-gerous position. Church, the i f i utility player, who had to be used in Lunt's place, surprise d everyone every-one by his-great pUring and, wonderful sticktoitiven ess. I This was the first lea.gue game of the season. It is commendable commend-able to the A. C. that she won under such unfavorable conditions con-ditions With Lunt back in the game and all tho mon working hard we look forwr.vd to a winning win-ning team which wiir cinch the championship of the division. |
