Show What Will the '-Harvest" Be? Not a few of the men who have been nominated nomi-nated for office by President Taft have an idea that they will succeed in winning the favor of the incoming President in case the Senate refuses to confirm them before March 4th. Just now there is no likelihood that they will be confirmed, whether they are justified in expecting, or even hoping, that Gov. Wilson thinks of keeping them in office is something no man can find out. The Governor has made the Sphinx look communicative communicat-ive in comparison, by his monumental display of reticence. It is a very open secret in Washington that a good many public officials expe't to be retained re-tained in office under the next administration. There is Secretary of the Interior Fisher, and Assistant As-sistant Secretary Adams, and some of the PresU dent's clerks at the White house, andbut what is the use of calling the roll of officialdom? They are casting sheeps' eyes at the man who will be boss .af ter March 4th. And it's really surprising now that you come to lodk over the list how very many Democrats there were holding office Under Taft. They admit it themselves, they were democrats dem-ocrats all the time, and we' all thought they were good old stanapat Republicans. But then, a man in office doesn't have much time to be telling just where he stands pqlitically. |
