''But when they talk of getting one thousand gallons per minute from a single well, it is almost beyond belief. Yet this is what Mr. S. A. Plalterman confidently expects to accomplish when he completes the improvements he is placing on one of his big wells on his homestead in the Parowan Paro-wan Valley. Was Not Satisfied. A year or more ago Mr. Hal-terman, Hal-terman, who is known as the veteran artesian well man in Parowan, and who has drilled the most of the artesian wells in the Parowan valley, bored a large well for himself, using 4V inch casing, and obtaining about the usual flow in that locality. Not satisfied however with this he went to Los Angeles and purchased pur-chased a Lone & Bowler pump, which greatly increased the output out-put from his well, the pump throwing about 600 gallons per minute. But still Mr. Halter-man Halter-man was not satisfied. He was out to test the artesian well possibilities pos-sibilities of Iron county, and next bought and installed a large centrifugal pump. This he found would lift practically all the water that he could obtain, ob-tain, and he next set about the task of developing a large supply sup-ply of water in the well. In driving the well some seven or eight separate and distinct water strata were encountered, and it now became his duty to tap and pick up as many of these veins of the life fluid as possible. Digs Big Open Well. , First of all a large open well about twenty feet deep was dug and the 412 inch pipe cut off at that point. Then the pipe already al-ready in was drawn up and cut off 34 feet from tho surface to admit a large flow at that depth. Other pipes were driven, being perforated to admit the water of other strata, until he now has available to his pump, and has successfully produced onto his land as high as 800 or 900 gallons per minute, and with the additional improvements he has under way, expects to produce pro-duce a permanent flow, with the aid of the centrifugal pump )f 1,000 gallons er minute,. which ft will be sufficient water to irrigate irri-gate 160 acres of land in good shape. Practical in This Valley. The purpose of digging the 20 feet well, was to catch a number of strata that did not have sufficient force to bring them to the surface, but which would flow within a few feet of the top bf the ground. As this is the condition with the state well and some others in this val-that val-that thisV method of procuring water,, atueast for culinary purposes pur-poses canbe successfully followed fol-lowed in trie Cedar valley. Expense isNot Excessive. The expense of operating the plant installed by Mr. Halter-man Halter-man is reported as being well within the range of practicability. prac-ticability. A 12 horse power gasoline engine is employed, and the cost of operating it is rhout $2,00 per day, which, con-rtt.Mering con-rtt.Mering the flow is by no means Mbitiye.
