Among the latest to protest against the habit of raising prices, simply because be-cause the raised price can be secured, there was heard, recently, it new voice. It was that of a canary. Helng a bird whose motto had ever been: "Strict application to business," It hud been his custom, when the rest of the family fam-ily left the elty during the summer and shut up the house, to hi Mini nlm-self nlm-self eut. Two years ago, he could, he says, get good accommodation, an airy room with a sunny aspect, good seed, water, bath, and unrestricted opportunity oppor-tunity for vocal exercise for thirty cent a week. Lust year, however, the charge for Ihe same accommodation was raised to forty cents, and this year it appears he has been obliged to pay tlfty cents, lie Is willing, lie declares, to sustain his share of Ihe harden of the wer, but he regartls a IW1 per cent rise as unduly hard en a bird of moderate mod-erate means. |
