Show PAROWAN STAKE CONFERENCE ENDS Convention Work of Stake Auxiliaries Auxili-aries Takes up Greater Part of Time of Session APOSTLE LYMAN AND OTHERS ARE PRESENT Use and Sale of Tobacco Comes in for Strong Condemnation. Social So-cial Side of Church Work is Discussed Dis-cussed by Women Workers of the Church The regular qunrterly conference of the Pnrowan Stake met at Parowan, Saturday and Sunday, September 25 and 20. The conference was devoted mostly to the work of tho auxiliary organizations, under n system of group conventions that aro being held in each stake of tho church at some time during the year. General church authorities representing the various auxiliaries at Parowan were: Apostle Richard R. Lyman, representing the Young Men's Mutual Improvement Association; Sister Susa Young Gates, representing the Relief Society; Sister Sis-ter Mary E. Connelley, editor of the Young Ladies' Journal, representing the Young Ladies' Mutual Association; Associa-tion; Elder Harold G. Reynolds, representing rep-resenting the Sunday School Union, and Mis3 May Anderson, the Primary Association. Part of the time of each session was devoted to a general meeting of all the saints after which each organiza-1 tion met by itself for discussion of( problems peculiar to the organiza-1 tion. I In the general assembly of the first . , session, Prof. B. Joseph Jenscnjspokej on the "Tobacco Evil." Sister Susa Y. Gates took the same subject for her talk. The speakers at tho Satur-j day afternoon meeting were Sister, Mary E. Connelley on "Regulation of Social Forces," and Sister May An-, derson on "Social Betterment of the Church." Apostlo Lyman's talk at this meeting was on "The Straw that! Points the Way," referring to such habits as the use of tobacco, profan-l ity, etc., which, while not tho funda-1 mental things of character, are a true index of the inner man. On-Sunday morning the talk wns by Elder Harold G. Reynolds on "Teachers' "Teach-ers' Training." After the usual Sun-( day afternoon business of making changes in stake offices and of sustaining sus-taining the authorities, Prof. B. Joseph Jo-seph Jensen spoke on "Education;" Sister Mary E. Connelley spoke on "Our Appreciation of the Gospel;" Elder El-der Harold G. Reynolds on "Tho Revealed Re-vealed Gospel;" Sister Susa Gates on her early experiences, and exhorted the people to, lead faithful lives. Apostle Lyman spoke on tho tobacco evil, the word of wisdom, prayer, etc.. after which President Henry W. Lunt announced the adjournment of the conference. |
