Show H The South Should Be Prepared Ml There is no doubt that the c unties of tho fl 4 southern part of tho state are a unit in tho belief B I that to the south belongs ono of the congrcsssmen B to bo choson at the coming election. f The Ropublicn state convention will bo held fl September 5th, at Salt Lake City. Thoro aro at fl present but two active, avowed candidates for B l tho nomination on this ticket from the counties B south, while thoro are more than that number B frm salt i'ak !iin B v However, it is belioved thoro are at least two, B- cloan, capable men in thais section, whoso names j H ( have not been mentiond who would accopt the B ,. & nomination if it were tendered them, but thoso B I man aro not seeking tho office and would go to no B K trouble to secure tho nomination. But should B f oithor be nominated or elected, he would servo the B peoplo to the best of his ability. H Wo make these suggestions, for it is not at all H impossible, and, in fact, is not imp.obabla, that the B Republicans of tho south will not be able to arrive H at an agreement between themselves as to either V of tho active candidnto, in which case it would be H! uocassnry to lose no time in agreeing upon H another for the office, or forfeit the honor to Salt Lake City. H The Republican delegates should fully sense H the responsibility devolving upon them in tho mat- H tor and should not permit their prejudices or prof- H crences to load them into a pitfall where their un- I 1; doing would be the inevitable re suit. Be prepared for surprises; b e broad enough to forget your own county, your ov n candidate, and be ready to center your atrengtl on some other man FROM THE SOUTH there are others-some of the best inthc stateand a m an could be found who would accept the nomintion if it would come to him without a contest. ) The samo is true of the Democrats, They should be prepared to meet an cjmcrgency should one arise, and have plans ready in case no agreement agree-ment should bo reached on an active candidate for the. office. . I Wo havo learned of but one man who is being j acivoly menioned for tho office by the Democrats, Harry N. Hays of Richfield is -being mentioned quito freely by his friends, and has a strong very following who believe that ho will havo no opposition opposi-tion from tho south. |
